University’s Innovista design wins global ‘livable-city’ award
The University of South Carolina’s Innovista master project design has won another major award.
Sasaki Associates, the Boston-based architectural firm responsible for the concept, won a Mixed-Use Design Commendation at the 45th International Making Cities Livable Conference in Portland, Ore., June 10-14, 2007.
The International Making Cities Livable Council is an interdisciplinary, international network of individuals and cities dedicated to making cities and communities more livable. Its goal is “to enhance the well-being of inhabitants of cities and towns, strengthen community, improve social and physical health, and increase civic engagement by reshaping the built environment of our cities, suburbs and towns,” according to its Web site.
“We are very excited that they recognized these goals in our plan for Innovista,” Igor Andersen, an associate with Sasaki, says of the recognition from the council.
The award is the third for Innovista and Sasaki in recent months. In May, the Congress for the New Urbanism honored the Innovista plan with a 2007 Charter Award in its Neighborhood, District, and Corridor category. In March, the Boston Society of Landscape Architects named the Innovista plan its Honor Award for Landscape Analysis and Planning.
